Blog #2: Discussing the Effects of Media on Our Life (Marino)

3. How much, if at all, have communication and information devices improved your ability to share your ideas with others, do your job, learn new things, and keep in touch with friends and family?

I cannot live without using communication and information devices; when I want to chat with my friends overseas, I use Facebook; when I need to search for some articles, I use the Internet; when I have some homework to work on, I use Word to write my essay as I am doing right now. Therefore, I am depending heavily much on social media and information devices, and I can't imagine a life where any of these devices exist.
First, social media is a very convenient tool for us to communicate with people from a distance. For example, I e-mail every day to my parents to let them know where I am, if I was late for  returning home. Furthermore, social media such as Skype and Facebook are convenient tools for people who want to communicate with foreign friends for free. These SNS devices made it possible for users to connect globally.

Next, when we want to look up some information, the fastest and most convenient way to search the data is to use the Internet. In fact, I rely heavily on the Internet  because almost everything is found from it. I can go to the government’s official website and look up reliable statistics, without spending time going to the ministries directly.

As we can know from these examples, my everyday life is closely connected to media, and there are lot of other media that we are relying on.

Hence, it is hard for us to think about a life without using these devices.

I agree with Marino that social media and information devices are taking a huge part in our daily life.
When I started to go to high school, I got my first cellphone. It was just my parents' educational policy. Before I got my cellphone, I used to find it so hard just to get to see someone. Moreover, when we made friends overseas, of course it is difficult to be in touch with them frequently, but today many of us use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and those devises make us easy to know friends' latest news. I think it might be easier for us to have a little chat through those devices because when you write a comment on it, it does not always have to be very formal. All you need to do is just write what you want to, or just one click to show a "like".
Lastly, as Marino said, it is extremely easy to know any information. Even though we know that the information might be wrong, I do not think people really care about it. Many people do not seem to want only a truth. Many of us require some information briefly, therefore in this point it can be said that the supply from quick media which includes mistakes and the demand from people matches.

  3. Now the Internet is a necessary thing to live in today’s society. As Marino, I cannot imagine the life without the Internet either. It is kind of the backbone of the society structure and people’s life. Obviously people depend on the Internet too much and we all know it is really dangerous because once the system is down, nobody can live their everyday life. So we are living in a two-edged society. We may have to think an alternative way to support our society. However it is also true that there is no choice but relying on the internet.
